How We Became One of the
Best Low Acid Coffee Brands
I’ve been talking to customers with various digestive issues for years. For a long time, we didn’t really promote low acid coffee because there is no certification for it like there is for Organic, meaning there are no industry standards, no standard test, no 3rd party that verifies any of the low acid coffee brands.
But so many customers were trying our coffee, particularly Colombia & Guatemala, and found it did not give them trouble as other coffees had. At first, we simply attributed it to switching to organic coffee - after all, it is one of the most heavily sprayed crops!
Testimonial after testimonial has come in over the last 11 years: “My GERD isn't bothered by this coffee”, “does not bother my reflux”, “ friendlier to my stomach”, “No more diarrhea! “, “doesn’t give me heartburn”
Then we started seeing various blog posts about the “Best Low Acid Coffee” and we were on the list! And we realized how many people really love the taste of coffee and were desperately looking for low acid coffee beans that weren't going to give them digestive trouble.
Now there are a lot of articles out there that say things like “go for a darker roast” or “Sumatra coffee is grown in less acidic soil” and even recommend brewing with eggshells!
We have tried some of these things and so have our customers. There are only two things we have found that we would adventure to say work.
1) Drinking and brewing with good quality filtered water
2) Adding a pinch of baking soda to your coffee.
Now adding the baking soda does affect the taste - you could drink ½ tsp of baking soda & water before having coffee and this seems to be effective as well.
Beyond that we have decided to go on feedback from our customers. An overwhelming majority drink our Colombia & Guatemala coffees without issue.
Many also like our Peru and our Decaf Peru and even mix them for half caff low acid coffee.
And we have some who have tried all of our coffees and have no issue with any of them.
So if you are looking for a low acid coffee, or a low acid decaf we invite you to try our coffee. Start with our Low Acid Set - or get our Coffee Sampler that has Colombia, Guatemala, Peru, and even Sumatra!
Our two most popular coffees among those looking for low acidity. Both coffees carry the Smithsonian Bird Friendly Certification
One easy way to try different roast levels and coffee origins are one of our coffee samplers. We have our six-set sampler which has enough coffee to brew a full 10 cup pot. There are three roast levels, four single origins, and two of our blends.
